There are three basic design types for cleanrooms: Unidirectional, Non-Unidirectional, and Mixed Airflow which can be tested in three different installation or operational phases: As-built, At-rest, & Operational.

Choice of test methods and specification for testing & acceptance levels depends on your specific needs or requirements. While the testing standards; such as, FED-STD-209E and ISO 14644-1, indicate recommended testing procedures and equipment, they do not recommend acceptance limits. Instead these standards provide recognized terminology for specifying appropriate limits and interpretation of results.
